Expert Answer and Explanation
Competencies for Nurse Practitioners
Before any nurse practitioner graduates, they need to have a full knowledge of the competencies that help them thrive in biomedical sciences. These competencies help the nurses to think critically in integrating evidence to practice, to create fresh approaches to care that are evidence-based, and to bring in knowledge from other subjects such as humanities into nursing (Harmon et al., 2020).
Leadership competencies entail building on the professional accountability of the nurse, advocacy of nursing issues, as well as scholarship. The skills help in embracing cultural sensitivity in clinical practice and also ensuring that nurses understand the full scope of practice.
Quality competencies help nurses to have the ability to be consistent with professional practices and standards in care. Application of this competency in the clinical setting helps to achieve excellence and the culture of perfection in care.
Practice inquiry helps nurse practitioners to be in a position to apply translational research in clinical settings. Under this competency, nurse practitioners apply their investigative abilities and inquiry to improve care standards and also transfer the knowledge to others.
Technology and Information literacy
This competency helps nurses to effectively communicate in the clinical setting, through proper management and integration of digital communication tools to care (Sipes, 2019). . This competency also allows nurses to choose the appropriate technology for the varying circumstances.
This competency allows nurses to have a background of science in their work, and hence helping them in the application of evidence based practice.
Health policy competencies helps nurses to participate in legislation and advocacy at the state, local, organizational, and national levels. This competency equips nurses with the necessary skills to solve social problems and improve community health through policy (Joyce et al., 2018).
Health Delivery System
This competency helps in planning of community programs and achieving organized decision making. It helps to minimize provider and patient risks through critical thought of organizational structures.
This competency allows nurse practitioners to fully understand the ethical implications of different decisions, as well as the effect of ethical complexities on populations. Nurses use this competency to solve ethical dilemmas in the clinical setting.
This competency helps nurses to practice as an independent practitioner. Nurses can assess, diagnose, and treat patients within their specific area of focus.
Reflection of Chosen Competency and its Application in the Clinical Setting
The competency I chose to focus on is technology an information literacy. The different elements of this competency is what makes me believe that this is the most important of them all. For instance, it helps to integrate digital communication tools in care, and in nursing, efficient communication is the key driver to success (World Health Organization, 2018). Applying this competency helps to implement evidence-based inter-professional collaboration with the aid of different technology resources. Also, this is a sector that needs constant upgrading as technology continues to advance, and hence there is a need to appreciate the contribution of evidence-based practice to its improvement.
