EXPERT ANSWER AND EXPLANATION

TOPIC 5 DQ 1

Nurse Manager

Nurses can be found in many formal leadership roles within and outside nursing environment. One such role is a nurse manager in clinical setting. A nurse management is a leadership position where the person in charge of it is responsible of ensuring that nurses under it conduct themselves in accordance with nursing practice guidelines (Phillips et al. 2018).

Responsibilities of Nurse Managers

The first role of a nurse manager is to manage all the nursing practices within his or her working environment. In terms of management, the nurse should ensure that the junior nurses have been allocated duties according to their qualifications. Also, the nurse manager must ensure that the junior nurses have all essential equipment, such as masks, gloves, and many others when accomplishing their duties. The second role of a nurse manager is to communicate the management decisions to the junior nurses (Manning, 2016). In other words, nurse managers are the link between the hospital management and the junior workers. Another role is that they may be involved in employing nurses into the facility. Some healthcare organizations have included nurse managers as member of their recruitment panels. For a person to become a nurse manager, the individual should have BSN, MSN, or DSN educational certificates.

Leadership Trails of Nurse Managers

According to Manning (2016), a nurse leader should have the following qualities. They include proper communication, management, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Also, the nurse must be persistent and patient. Proper communication can help nurse manager communicate well with their staff. A goo manager should have proper decision-making skill in critical situations. Apart from the above skills, a nurse manager should be able to solve conflicts arising in the care setting, and thus they should have proper conflict resolution skills.

Expert Answer and Explanation: Topic 5 DQ 2

Advocacy Strategies

Nurses can advocate for their rights and those of their patients even without being in any leadership position. One of the ways of advocating for change in a nursing environment is effective communication (Williams et al. 2018). A nurse can use effective communication to advocate for various issues within his or her working setting. For instance, a nurse can use a media house to communicate their plights and those of their patients. Another strategy is a peaceful demonstration. James et al. (2019) reports that n urses can organize a peaceful protest to persuade their management to adopt a specific change in a health organization. For instance, when they want salary increment for whatever reasons, they can organize a peaceful demonstration. Also, nurses can advocate for their plights through the court. For instance, when nurses feel that they are not being treated fairly, they can negotiate with their management. However, if negotiation fails, they can move to court to compel the organization to agree to their terms.

Case

I provided leadership in my organization when my nursing colleagues and I wanted the organization to follow the hand hygiene guidelines. We wanted the management to help us fight hospital-based infections by observing hand hygiene as directed by WHO and other healthcare organizations (James et al., 2019). We wanted sanitizers, masks, and gloves. I tried to negotiate with the management, but they did not heed tour pleas. The negotiation did not work. I could have handled the issue differently. I could have mobilized other nurses to organize a peaceful demonstration and boycott work until the management agrees to our terms. The strategy could have affected the patient outcome drastically. However, it would have paid off in future.

So far this is the highest marks I got for an assignment done by you guys. I got 42/50 for this assignment. The exact feedback from my lecturer was:
Introduction: Good introduction to assisted dying, especially in relation to laws within Australia. Introduction was a little too long.
Aim or Purpose: Good purpose but improved grammar needed. Good use of PICO.
Method: The method, while explained is very out of order. Try to write a methods section that can be followed in a step by step fashion

You did a good job just some details were missed enough attention. To be honest, you did much better job than the other websites. I would like to have more experience with you then I can give you more detailed feedback.
