Evaluation of evidence is a significant practice in quality improvement project. Researchers use two main methods of evaluating evidence. The methods include qualitative and quantitative techniques. Quantitative method involves assessing and comparing various measures using in the study being evaluated (Little et al., 2018). When using this method, researchers are required to apply techniques including average, standard deviation, mean, and other statistical parameters. Standard deviation is a measure of dispersion or amount of variation of a set of values. The values can be said to be close to mean when the standard deviation is low. Mean is the sum of collection of numbers divided by the set the collection of set results. Median can be defined as the value at the midpoint of a frequency distribution of quantities (Little et al., 2018). From the information above, quantitative method is used to evaluate studies using numerical values.

On the other hand, qualitative method involves gathering and assessing data that are not numeric in nature to understand the experiences, opinions, or concepts provided in the content. The data might include texts, audio, or video (McIlvennan et al., 2019). When evaluating data using a qualitative approach, one should assess processes, perceptions of the study, meaning and experiences of the study, and the participants included in the research. As a result, qualitative study does not apply parameters and are measurable. Empathetic comprehension is often applied in qualitative method when analyzing and interpreting evidence under review (McIlvennan et al., 2019). Overall, it can be concluded that qualitative method evaluates data using non-numerical parameters. However, in quantitative method, data is often analyzed using numerical parameters.

Capstone Change Project Objectives

The mental wellbeing of nurses is paramount when it comes to proper administration of care to patients. The current COVID-19 pandemic came with several challenges that among others, had a negative impact on the mental and psychological wellbeing of nurses, which by extension has also affected their performance in terms of care delivery (Muller et al., 2020). As such, this paper wanted to come up with a solution to help deal with this challenge. The proposed solution was to introduce a counseling session, conducted twice a week, targeted towards frontline nurses, to help them better cope with mental and psychological issues associated with handling COVID-19 cases. To do so, the following objectives were established.

The first objective is to evaluate the impact of counseling in reducing the reported cases of psychological issues among frontline nurses. According to Muller et al. (2020), both individual and group counseling sessions provide an avenue for persons with various mental and psychological issues to share and channel out some of the aggravating factors and also identify solutions on how to cope with various aspects of stress.

The second objective is to find out the effects of counseling in improving job satisfaction among frontline nurses. Through counseling, it is expected that the nurses will have the opportunity to vent out some of the issues that affect their mental wellbeing and also offered solutions on how to deal with those issues. As a result, they are likely to have a more positive outlook on their job than when stressed.

The second objective is to find out the effects of counseling in improving the efficiency of frontline nurses when dealing with COVID-19 cases. Shaukat et al. (2020) note that when care providers are operating in a stressful environment, their ability to offer effective and efficient care becomes impaired. Therefore, the intervention upon successful completion is expected to assist to improve the efficiency of nurses, and by extension, the quality of care given to patients.

The final objective is to find out the effects of counseling in reducing the cases of reported absenteeism among frontline nurses. Stressed nurses are bound to have high cases of job absenteeism, due to burnout and other physical symptoms associated with the stress. Therefore, the intervention is expected to remedy the issue of absenteeism among frontline nurses.

For instance, according to Nichter et al. (2018), counseling is one of the ways of helping individuals gain healthy mental status. Nursing intervention

The PICOT question’s proposed solution aims to preserve nurses’ mental wellbeing in the infectious unit, hence qualifying to be a patient care practice. The proposed solution can be classified as prevention care because fewer medical errors will occur with the healthcare facility by preserving the mental health of nurses.

Health care agency

A Healthcare agency is an organization that provides health care services to patients, their families, and communities by hiring healthcare professionals and providing them with resources to conduct their duties. Healthcare organization is significant in answering the PICOT question above. The organization is the key stakeholder and will provide the resources needed to implement the intervention. Without the healthcare organization, the PICOT question’s proposed outcome will not be achieved if the healthcare agency involved has not provided resources for implementation. The healthcare agency also involves the interdisciplinary team that will work in planning and implementing the project.

Nursing practice

Nursing practice can be defined as a caring-based practice consisting of treatment and diagnosis of patients. The PICOT question above has provided a good example of nursing practice. First, a diagnosis was done and found that nurses suffer mental health problems due to the effects of a covid-19 pandemic. Muller et al. (2020) report that more than 1000 nurses have died due to covid-19 complications. These nurses affect nurses, and some even fear going to work due to the pandemic. The treatment for the problem is counseling nurses twice a week.
